Below is a brief profile of some of these companies and links to their websites.

Advanced Manufacturing

All formulations are developed and produced in the company's London laboratories and production facility using raw materials sourced from around the world.  KelCoatings' strengths of product development and customer service have generated growth in the Canadian market and strong interest from the United States coil coating industry.
  • Lanxess - LANXESS Inc. will be moving their Global Research & Development Centre for Butyl Rubber into a new state-of-the-art facility at the University of Western Ontario (Western) Research Park at the end of 2009.  Dr. Ralf I. Schenkel, the Head of Global R&D for Butyl Rubber indicated the move to Western’s Research Park will give LANXESS researcher’s access to people and equipment at all academic levels plus the added synergies of collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment.  “Working in development networks of academia, industry and suppliers is a key strategy for LANXESS and will provide access to emerging technologies and new opportunities for us,” said Dr. Schenkel.  LANXESS, with global headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany is a leader in specialty chemicals.  They are most known for the development, manufacturing and sales of specialty chemicals, plastics, rubber and intermediates.

Aerospace

  • Diamond Aircraft - Diamond Aircraft Industries (Canada) was launched in 1992 with a goal to redefine the light aircraft training market and to bring new aircraft manufacturing technology to North America. The company is located in London, Ontario, Canada in a 300,000 square foot facility on the London International Airport, employing 540 people. Diamond Aircraft manufactures the DA20-C1 (two-place VFR aircraft, DA40 series (four-place IFR aircraft), the DA42 Twin Star and is developing a personal light jet aircraft.  Diamond is proud of its aviation firsts including Synthetic Vision Technology in a general aviation aircraft, the five-seat modern composite aircraft and the Personal Light Jet.

Alternative Energy

  • StormFisher Biogas - StormFisher Biogas announced their investment in London which will be their flagship facility in Ontario.  They have purchased 14 acres of land just south of Hwy. 401, and expect to have their facility up and running by the end of 2009.

StormFisher will be using technology that presents the missing link in the recycling world where organic materials that no one else can use are made into renewable energy. They process manure from farms within a 50 km radius of London and take away the odorous materials that are normally spread on farmer’s fields where there is risk of run-off into the local watershed.  They also take organic by-products from grocery stores and food processors within a 150 km radius of London and create electricity. These by-products would normally go to landfill sites and create green house gas emissions.

The processing tanks are like a large stomach called an “anaerobic digester” that digests materials and kills pathogens. As the materials decompose, they generate a biogas, which is a combination of methane and carbon dioxide. The biogas powers an engine that creates electricity which will be fed into the power grid.  With the materials that remain after processing, an organic fertilizer product with less odour and fewer pathogens is created that complies with all federal laws. StormFisher will partner with existing fertilizer distributors with established networks to get their product into the marketplace.  The residual materials could also be used as compost or alternative fuels.

The number of employees is expected to increase to 75.
