EDUCATION
London is well known for its strength in education and proud to be home to Fanshawe College, The University of Western Ontario and its affiliated colleges, and several private training facilities. This training capacity creates a workforce with the skills required to meet industry needs.
Fanshawe College
Fanshawe College is one of the largest colleges in Ontario with approximately 15,000 full-time students. The college encourages practical training and currently has approximately 3,500 apprentice positions and 32 postsecondary cooperative education (co-op) programs. Fanshawe works closely with industry to determine current and future skill requirements and organizes its programs to meet employer needs.
Students graduate from technical programs with designations such as Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Mechanical Engineering Technician, Tool and Die Technician, Mould Maker and Motive Power Technician. These programs may include a co-op component or an apprenticeship, both of which help to build relationships between students and employers. Fanshawe also offers a number of customized training programs for companies and their employees.
Fanshawe enjoys an excellent reputation for facilitating partnerships between students and local companies which results from the emphasis that the college places upon serving the local business community. Cooperative Education is a process which formally integrates academic study with paid, related work experience.
